The Art of Friendship

When a friend is really a true friend you never skip a beat,
no matter the length of time you've spent apart...

I have a friend that is the true definition of that line.

"A" and I were always close in high school.
We were together every day for the most part.
Then came graduation and college.
We grew apart while choosing our own paths.

Fast forward 10 years.
It's funny how life brings people back together.
We ended up moving into homes 5 minutes apart from each other.

Even though we are physically SO close to each other,
you know the drill, life happens.
We rarely see each other.
Work. Family. Everything keeps us apart.

We chit chat here and there,
and get together for the occasional dinner with our husbands.
But, it has been YEARS since we really, truly hung out.
Just us girls.

Tuesday we finally got the chance
and decided to head out for a shopping adventure.
And it was perfect!

I needed to get away from life for a bit,
to not have to be Mom, or Hun,
to just be Katie for a few hours.
To be able to be a friend, give opinions,
take advice, listen and be listened to.
To kick back, relax and enjoy everything that came my way.

It was like going back in time. We havent changed much.
Well, ok maybe there's been a few small changes...

A showing off the cork knife holder I fell in love with

Funny how you hit 30 years old and all of a sudden
American Eagle and Abercrombie aren't nearly as exciting as

The Container Store and Crate & Barrel.

Totally DELICIOUS!
We even exchanged our back in the day Chinese buffet for
something savory and delicious at The Cheesecake Factory.
{And let me tell you, I highly suggest their grilled eggplant sandwich!}

And Sugarland, Kenny Chesney and Rascal Flatts on the radio
instead of Ricky Martin {A's soundtrack for our morning drive to school!}?
WOW, we've really grown up!

When I got home I realized how special our friendship is.
After all these years we can still pick up a conversation about ANYTHING.
It just comes easy. No awkward moments.

No searching for words. Nothing is off limits. And I mean NOTHING.

Just the pure simplicity of having a friend
you feel comfortable opening up to,
that can relate, listen, vent, joke around,
laugh at and with you,

and most of all BE THERE
makes my heart want to explode.

Sometimes you just need that.

I needed that.

Awww I LOVE this post!! Me and my bestie have the same kinda relationship. Even though we don't see each other much, when we do it's like we never missed a beat. She lives 45 mins away and I miss her so much! Thanks for sharing this and helping me to remember just how special it is to have an amazing best friend!
